New ‘Jurassic World’ Movie At Universal And Amblin Sets Manuel Garcia-Rulfo In Leading Role

EXCLUSIVE: Following his breakout role in Netfflix’s The Lincoln Lawhyer series, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo is looking to go from the defending clients to evading dinosaurs as he is in negotiations to join Universal and Amblin Entertainment’s new Jurassic World movie. Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey are also set to star. Gareth Edwards will direct.

The studio recently dated the pic to bow on July 2, 2025 and moved fast to find a director in Edwards. The new movie will be a fresh take, with Jurassic World cast members Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard not expected to return, nor the original trilogy’s thespians Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill. David Koepp penned the script.

The film will be will be executive produced by Steven Spielberg through Amblin, and Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley will produce through Kennedy-Marshall. EVP Production Development Sara Scott and Creative Executive of Production Development Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project for the studio.

In June 1993 Steven Spielberg’s groundbreaking Jurassic Park redefined the summer blockbuster and changed the culture forever. Since then, the Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment franchise has created six daring, innovative and epically entertaining films that have earned more than $6 billion worldwide.   

Jurassic World immerses audiences of all ages in a new era of wonder and thrills where dinosaurs and humankind must learn to coexist. Jurassic World is more than a film franchise. At every turn, the film series delivers a larger-than-life destination for exploration, discovery, and epic adventure. Dinosaurs live again and they live in Jurassic World.  

While this will mark Garcia-Rulfo’s biggest film role, he has been busy on the TV front in recent years starting with the Amazon TV show Goliath, which starred Billy Bob Thornton. He would go on to land the highly-coveted in starring role in Netflix and David E. Kelley’s The Lincoln Lawyer, with the third season airing later this year.

On the film side, Garcia-Rulfo will next be seen leading Netflix’s Spanish-language film Pedro Páramo. Based on the seminal Mexican novel of the same name by Juan Rulfo, the film adaptation is directed by acclaimed cinematographer Roberto Prieto who is making his directorial debut. On the small screen, he’ll be seen reprising his starring role of Mickey Haller in the third season of the Netflix hit series The Lincoln Lawyer. Garcia-Rulfo has starred in films such as A Man Called Otto6 UndergroundSicario: Day of the SoldadoMurder of the Orient Express and The Magnificent Seven.
