Hailing from Dublin, Farrell has established himself as a vital voice in the revival of Irish folk. He began his musical journey in Dublin’s famed An Góilin Traditional Singers Club, before launching a solo career that took off following his standout appearance at the 2016 Celtic Connections. Since then his reputation has only grown, earning him international recognition and respect across the global folk music scene.
Farrell’s career is decorated with numerous honours, including multiple wins at the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, as well as several nominations at the RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards. His most recent album The Wedding Above In Glencree, released in early 2023, peaked at number 11 on the Official UK Folk Albums Chart and earned him yet another nomination for Folk Singer of the Year in Ireland.
A live performer of rare sincerity and emotional depth, Farrell has captivated audiences with his ability to immerse listeners in the heart and soul of Irish folk traditions. His previous tours in Australia received glowing reviews, with The Weekend Australian praising his storytelling mastery.
Critics have long praised Farrell for his authenticity and musical prowess:
