Actor Deb Mukherjee, father of filmmaker Ayan Mukerji, passed away on March 14 at the age of 83 after battling age-related health issues. His loss has left a deep void in the hearts of his family and loved ones. His niece, actress Kajol, shared an emotional tribute on Instagram, remembering the special bond they shared. She recalled how they always took pictures together during Durga Puja, dressed in their festive best. Struggling to come to terms with his absence, she wrote, “Tradition said that every Durga Puja we would click pictures together. When we were all dressed up and looking good. I’m still adjusting to the thought of a world without him. To one of the finest men that I’ve ever known. Rest in peace. You will be loved, remembered and missed every day of my life. #debumukerji #youareloved.”
Her post received at lot of love and condolences from the film industry. Esha Deol expressed her sympathies, commenting, “Deepest condolences. May his soul rest in peace. Om Shanti.” Jackie Shroff, who has endured similar losses in his own family, shared, “Having lost my mother father brother I feel the family pain….. Condolences.” Renuka Shahane also conveyed her sorrow with a broken heart and folded hand emojis. The news of Deb Mukherjee’s passing resonated deeply within Bollywood, as he was not just a veteran actor but also a kind and cherished presence.
His funeral was held the same day at Pawan Hans Crematorium in Juhu, where family, friends, and industry colleagues gathered to bid him farewell. Ranbir Kapoor, a close friend of Ayan Mukerji, cut short his vacation in Alibaug to be by his side and even carried Deb Mukherjee’s body as a pallbearer. Several Bollywood celebrities, including Anil Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, and Jaya Bachchan, visited Ayan’s home to personally offer their condolences and support during this difficult time.
