BRISBANE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (BIFF) AT DENDY CINEMAS

Dendy Cinemas is honoured to partner with BRISBANE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (BIFF), a celebration of cinema as art, entertainment, and industry, for everyone seeking bold and unforgettable experiences.

An annual event, held over 11 days from Thursday 24th October to Sunday 3rd November 2024 and screening at Dendy
Coorparoo, Dendy Portside, and Dendy Powerhouse Outdoor Cinema, BIFF is proud to be Queensland’s largest celebration
of film culture, presenting a thought provoking and entertaining programme of Australian and International cinema. This year’s festival will showcase over 40 feature films and 40 short films from home and abroad, filmmaker Q&As, and industry and student events.

THE RED – World Premiere including Filmmakers in attendance + short film EARWAX presented prior
In a remote Australian town, terror takes the form of Rippy, a giant Zombie Kangaroo. Maddy, a young police officer
determined to live up to her father’s legacy is put to the test when locals are found ripped to shreds.

EMILIA PEREZ – QLD Premiere
Written and directed by Jacques Audiard and starring Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldana, it’s a story of Mexican drug wars and LGBTQ+ liberation that blurs genres, meshes themes and is possibly the wildest film to ever debut at Cannes.

NIGHTBITCH – with short film THE TRAUMAIST presented prior
Starring Amy Adams as a woman who pauses her career to be a stay-at-home mom, but soon her domesticity takes a surreal turn. One day, the mother was a mother, but then, one night, she was something else. A perfect Halloween choice.

THE LIFE AND DEATH OF WESTERLY WINDERA – QLD Premiere followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers
Westerly Windina travels to Bangkok for gender reassignment surgery hoping to finally exorcise her former self, the macho, womanizing, visionary, and tormented pro surfer Peter Drouyn.

SHARKO – Australian Premiere with short film, LAST LEG prior and then followed by a Q&A with special guests Mark and
Luke Graham + Brisbane, QLD and Australian NRL Legend ‘The King’ Wally Lewis.
A documentary drama about rugby league legend Mark Graham’s personal and professional life told through the perspective of his filmmaker son, Luke Graham.

Self-appointed Mother of the Year, Ronnie has given her daughter Audrey everything, so when Audrey selfishly falls into a coma, Ronnie has no choice but to keep their dreams alive by assuming her identity.

RE-ANIMATOR (1985) – Halloween Screening presented by BIFF
Conducting clandestine experiments within the morgue at Miskatonic University, scientist Herbert West reveals to a fellow graduate student his groundbreaking work concerning the re-animation of fresh corpses. Screening at Dendy Powerhouse Outdoor Cinema Thursday, 31 October at 6:30pm with gates open at 5:30pm for some spooky pre-film surprises plus a Reanimator Juice Cocktail on arrival.

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968) – Halloween Screening presented by BIFF
A disparate group of individuals takes refuge in an abandoned house when corpses begin to leave the graveyard in search of fresh human bodies to devour.

Screening at Dendy Powerhouse Outdoor Cinema Thursday, 31 October at 8:45pm with gates open at 8:15pm for some
spooky pre-film surprises plus a Reanimator Juice Cocktail on arrival.
ALL WE IMAGINE AS LIGHT – With short film THERE IS SO MUCH I COULD WRITE POETRY ABOUT presented prior.
Follows the lives of two roommates living in Mumbai, India. India’s first film to be selected at the Cannes Film Festival in over
30 years, and the first film by a filmmaker of Indian descent to win the Grand Prix. Screening Friday, 1 November at Dendy Cinemas Coorparoo and Saturday, 2 November at Dendy Cinemas Portside.
MELT FESTIVAL: I SAW THE TV GLOW – Presented by BIFF
See one of the first screenings in QLD of this LGBTQIA+ film with a cryptic, horror-tinged mood piece filled with striking imagery and deep metaphors. Screening at Dendy Powerhouse Outdoor Cinema Saturday, 2 November in conjunction with MELT ON SCREEN at 6.30pm and a BIFF screening at Dendy Cinemas Portside Sunday, 3 November.
MELT FESTIVAL: PROBLEMISTA – Presented by BIFF
A surrealist comedy-drama from writer, director and star, Julio Torres as an aspiring toy designer from El Salvador struggling to bring his unusual ideas to life in New York City. also starring Tilda Swinton, RZA and Isabella Rosellini. Screening at Dendy
