Pushpalatha, the veteran South Indian actress, passed away on February 5 in Chennai at 87 after battling an illness. She had an impressive career that spanned several decades, appearing in over 100 films across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada cinema.
She made her debut in Tamil cinema with Senkkottai Singam in 1958 and entered Malayalam films in 1969 with Nurse. Some of her most memorable roles were in films like Sarada, Kalyanaraman, and Sakalakala Vallavan, where she worked alongside stars like M.G. Ramachandran, Sivaji Ganesan, Rajinikanth, and Kamal Haasan.
Pushpalatha was also a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and even tried her hand at film production. She married actor and producer AVM Rajan after meeting him on the sets of Naanum Oru Penn, and they had two daughters, including actress Mahalakshmi.
In her later years, Pushpalatha withdrew from the limelight, devoting herself to spirituality and social causes. Her passing marks the end of an era in South Indian cinema, but her legacy lives on through the generations she inspired.
